Unfortunately, in spite of some 32 members saying that they would be “regular” players and some 8 further ones who could “be called on”, there were just 10 names down for the first game and 9 for the second. After some 20 phone calls and personal approaches, as well as a plea for suport from the A Team, we were still well short for both games. Even allowing for returning from holiday of 4, that would leave us well short of the 20 needed eachy time. This situation could not continue.
So it was decided – by the Committee, after consultations – that we would withdraw the B Team from the League altogether.
This is a pity; mainly because the Club will be the poorer through having no B Team. But, if so few are willing to support the team, there comes a time when realityhas to kick in!
I would like to thank those members who did show support. I am personally very disappointed that so many decided – for whatever reasons – not to support the team. With a membership of over 400, it ought to be possible to turn out a decent team. Maybe it will be missed? Time will tell.
