The Friendly Team

We have had a successful season and I would like to thank everyone who played.
With some 45 players in all, and this included around 20 who had bever played in a competitive game before, we feel that we have contributed to the life of the Club in a significant way.
Although none of this was mentioned at the AGM, it is through this sort of game that newer members are introduced to the wider aspects of the game and what is involved in representing one’s Club. Several of our regulars have gone on to become members of the Trudy Bates and the B Teams.
We hope that many more will take the opportunity to become members of our internal League teams and feel able to try their hand at the Competitions.
No one should ever feel that “I am not good enough!”. This is nonsense. Everyone had to start somewhere and it is recognised that by playing against players a little better than oneself is the best way to improve. This was proved conclusively this year!
Of course, cost does enter into the equation – but the future of the Club does depend on having new people coming through each and every year.
I would urge you to try to introduce just one new member in time for next winter.

Meanwhile, those of you who “go outside” during the summer – have a good season and, hopefully, better weather this year. If you – like me for the first time – are staying inside, I look forward to seeing you during the summer whatever the weather.
In either case, I hope to see you in good form for next season. I believe that we could have some new venues to add to the present games, so we shall need your support even more.
